it might be a translation error but one of the japanese tlk artists I follow on twitter went to d23 this weekend and claims he saw footage of the remake.
sigh. wish disney would show it to the public by now.

my best guess is that they are trying to build up as much hype and anticipation for the footage as possible and then BAM everyone is talking about it for months.
either that, or it’s unfinished footage and a quick viewing to the people at d23 can’t be analyzed over and over by people who want to nitpick and find flaws in everything.

I'm all for them holding off on showing that footage until at least November. Disney probably wants to get at least the MCU stuff out of the way first, so they'll probably hold off until Ant-Man and the Wasp is out in July. I get the feeling that they might not even show the "Circle of Life" clip when they finally start putting stuff online - in fact, I think they really should just save it for the actual movie premiere. The biggest draw is obviously the spectacle of seeing Disney outdo their 2016 Jungle Book animation on the big screen (and that was pretty dang good), so I'd be fine if they spoiled as little of it as possible and their entire marketing campaign was just cast interviews, some concept art, a bit of the score and soundtrack, maybe some stills from the finished product, and a single, minimal trailer. It's not like people the world over don't at least know of The Lion King, so I don't think they really have to show too much off.

According to
The Sun, Sir Tim Rice has joined Elton John and Beyoncé to compose a new song for the end credits of the remake. Apparently, all the original songs except for "Be Prepared" will be sung in the film.
