What do we think?

Not expecting much, as live-action CGI lions are completely devoid of the magic Disney has long been known for, but hey, at least they're building on the canon for once.

The whole movie is apparently Rafiki telling Kiara about her grandfather, whom she never met.

A few things that stood out to me:
- Same director as the 2019 remake: meh
- Hans Zimmer: always good
- no Lebo M, unless Zimmer pulls him in again
- Seth Rogan as Pumbaa: should be good
- Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Scar: not british
- no James Earl Jones

Where'd you see it's the same director? The director for this one is Barry Jenkins

Since it has the same director as the live action remake I'm expecting it to be extremely mid but at least it's an original story for once. Even though I predict that it will borrow heavily from A Tale of Two Brothers which I'm actually pretty okay with since it will finally be canon.

I am apprehensive about the changes They seem to be making. I think turning Scar into a sympathetic villain is a very bad idea (If that is where They are going). With it being set in the CGI Universe nothing They do Here will affect the continuity of the original. It does seem however that The Name Taka will be canonized in at least "A" movie continuity so that means We can officially accept that as Scar's given name rather that just using it because We had nothing offical to go on.

I am very excited for this movie and with it being in the CGI Universe I can just let anything I don't like story-wise bounce off Me.

Can't we all?

After seeing the trailer, i am really excited to see how the story plays out and what Barry Jenkins does with the story (really appreciate his work since I saw Moonlight (2016)). However, the CGI sticks out like a sore thumb. I am pretty sure lots of hardwork was put by thousands of people to make the movie look great, but the fact is that it doesn't (in my eyes), the colors are bland, and it limits quite a lot what you can do with the story. Look what they did with puss in boots as an example, you can have colorful cgi, why don't just do it instead of this bland realistic mess? Why are Disney execs insisting on this technology?
