Did Scar kill a hyena in the Be Prepared song?

It looks like Scar leaps forward and knocks a hyena into a lava vent that appears and the hyena falls into it and presumably dies.

I think that the hyena died to serve as an example if one hyena steps out of line.

I've always wondered that. Originally I thought it was Shenzi who he knocked backwards, so I obviously assumed the hyena didn't die, but once I realized it wasn't her...well... I'd probably say he did kill one.
