Timon's betrayal

Timon's betrayal

Postby Animal of the Wild » April 18th, 2014, 6:27 pm

Why has there never been a topic about his betrayal at the end?

Personally, I found this a pretty shocking act, and definitely the character's low point. Yet, everyone seems to still love him. Why?

At the end.

When he didn't go with the others and decided to live in the place alone..

He made up, but still.

Because Timon had "built" Hakuna Matata and could see it breaking down right in front of him starting with Simba going off with Nala and then Pumbaa leaving to be with Simba (who Timon was still mad at).

It's like in high school when you fall out with a friend and all your other friends seem to side with them, so you defiantly march off and eat lunch by yourself but then realise being alone sucks so you go make up with everyone.

The only way that constitutes as an act of betrayal is Timon going against his own words, "Friends stick together to the end." Other than that, it was mostly Timon's stubbornness and selfishness on full display. He receives a pass from fans because he learned his lesson.

Everyone can make mistakes, but not everyone can fix the problem. It is very difficult to admit that there was something wrong. This can be done only by those who have kindness. Timon was able to do it because of the fact that he found Pumbaa, he admitted that he was mistaken.

Another very important moment is that he suffered because of he became alone and made something wrong. If he was selfish, he would not be upset, but continued to live alone and would not thought about feelings of Pumbaa.

In a way I can understand why he was upset when Simba went away: he did not ask personally Timon to help, but it did Nala. So he could be a bit offended. But he still helped him. Because Simba - his friend. It is real friendship.

If you call getting mad at your friends for five minutes abandonment and betrayal, then sure, Timon committed the unforgivable sin of betraying his friends. But look at it from his point of view: He was living the Hakuna Matata life with Simba and Pumbaa, and all of the sudden a lioness shows up, tries to eat Pumbaa, only to leave with Simba, and Pumbaa following the two. If anything, Timon was the one who felt abandoned and betrayed. All relationships face hardships. To call an argument, even say a large one, betrayal... I really don't see how that's possible short of living a VERY sheltered life.

As soon as Rafiki taught him what Hakuna Matata really meant, Timon quickly realized that he needed his friends just as much as they needed him, so off he went. If it was real abandonment, he would have stayed behind.

Why are you all being so defensive of him for what he did? Does anyone see this from my POV?

^Why are you getting so annoyed that people are posting their own opinions? You asked, we answered. There's no need to be like that.
