[Private] Shades of the Flame [w/ Iri]

Re: Shades of the Flame [w/ Iri]

She stared dully at the rusty-colored female for a moment, then took her gaze aside with a subtle nod. Kaharabu worked alone, she always had. She always would. [except not lol] Twitching an ear, she lifted her head from the carcass and swiped her tongue around her red-stained muzzle. Now satisfied, she straightened slightly, eyeing the other female as she rose. After a nice meal she'd enjoy another nap, but she didn't think that was a good idea. Yawning, she rose to her paws as well, and stepped away from the dead impala, allowing the carrion-birds to swoop in and take over the meat. "Good luck with whatever, then." she grunted out, scowling towards Chaltuu.

[Yeah. I was thinking one more incident happens and they- very grudgingly, mind you xD- agree to work together? Maybe like the hyena attack I mentioned a while back?]

Chaltuu grunted in response and acknowledged the other female's words with a brief, curt inclination of her head. Galloping a safe distance from Kaharabu but not so far that she was unable to see the dark greyish lioness- but the two of them were still a long way off so that they wouldn't disturb each other- she made a rather fruitless struggle to clamber up the thick trunk of a baobab tree. Her attempt was pitiful, really, as she hadn't the foggiest how to climb, nor where to place her paws to hoist herself up. On occasion, she had sometimes watched leopards expertly climb trees as a cub with undeniable skill, often when she had had nothing else to occupy herself with or was sent off by her parents, or the other adults. A vast majority of Kivuli's pride had not been fond of her even when she was a cub, often not wanting a jinx like herself to be around their children.

The reddish-hued feline made a few other efforts to puncture the bark with her long, hooked claws, to haul herself upwards, even though all of them were extremely futile. On one last, tired try to impale the tree trunk with her ungues, she dragged herself up the side of it, and to her own surprise, managed to heave herself up to where she could balance and not be in the danger of toppling over. She adjusted her position to where she finally felt a bit comfortable, avoiding getting her pelt pierced by the rough bark. She shifted her head onto her paws, but she still did not sleep. Instead, she scowled and muttered under her breath, flicking her ears to the sound of chirping crickets and twittering birds... Oh, how she wished the annoying creatures would just shut up.

[Another question, um, about what time of day would it be in the RP?
Also, sorry for long long long post. -sheepish grin-]

[ okie cx probably like late afternoonish ]

She turned away as well and began to march in the opposite direction, tail swinging behind her. Now what. Well, carry on as usual, she supposed, which wasn't anything all too exciting. Kaharabu let out a soft huff as she slid through the green vegetation, her eyes flicking dully across the horizon and the multitude of distant herds of prey. She yawned contently and sniffed the air, wondering if she could find a source of water. Not the one in the gorge, preferably, since she wasn't eager to climb around and possibly fall. The dark grey feline twitched an ear and broke into a trot, the scent of a water-hole catching her attention.

[ the water hole can be in hyena lands i guess xD ]

[Yeah, considering it'd probably be a good place for them to hunt... you know, since animals.. drink.. there. -Shuts up-]

Chaltuu tossed and turned, finding it difficult to fall asleep like she wanted to. After a while she supposed it wasn't any good trying to force herself to sleep and instead reluctantly bounded off of the thick tree branch she had perched herself on. It didn't shift- something that didn't surprise her all that much, considering it was a baobab tree- but she stared at it for a minute, not really knowing why. Shaking her head slightly as if to clear her mind, she began to trek across the plains again, keeping her cold glare firmly fixed on the path that lay before her.

As the scent of a lioness became stronger, a hyena crept from its shelter behind an overhanging rock that curled inwards slightly, almost like a hawk's cruel talons. Her lip curled in a sneer. Though technically the waterhole did not belong to any specific breed, the hyena and her cackle of hyenas preferred to delude themselves into thinking that the waterhole was theirs. She felt slightly intimidated by the greyish feline's rather muscular, battle-hardened appearance, but she supposed she and her entire clan could drive her off if they tried. The female did not seem to be very threatening, but she didn't like other predators "trespassing" on her land.

"Excuse me," she said coldly, stepping out from behind her cover. Though her voice had no obvious hostility, her expression and tone made it clear that outsiders were unwelcome, although she highly doubted that the lioness would really take notice. "But you happen to be trespassing on my clan's territory."

[I'm tempted to call this hyena Martha. xD Like Frank the fish.
Also, I know hyenas are technically called a "cackle" when they're in groups, but I'm going to call them both a cackle and a clan. xD
EDIT: Typo.]

[ xD lol ]

The water-hole came into view down the slope, surrounded by a few grazing beasts and other assorted animals. So mixed and diverse were the scents that Kaharabu did not pick up on the prevalence of hyena until she was approached by one. Her muzzle curled into a fierce scowl as she stared at the creature, and her tail twitched up. "How unfortunate." she muttered in an equally icy tone, her eyes flicking up and down. She closed her jaws and abruptly stepped forwards again, heading towards the edge of the water. She had a feeling she'd provoked a skirmish, and from the hyena's confident words she guessed there were more of them nearby. A fight would be fun, again, despite the beating she'd already taken today. Oh well.

[Going to leave out Chaltuu for a short amount of time.]

The hyena bared her teeth angrily, and although she didn't charge at the lioness, she stepped in her path abruptly, a snarl escaping from the back of her throat. "Yes, actually, it's more of how unfortunate it is for you. You see, lioness, I don't like having other predators on my territory," she hissed, her hackles rising and bristling. Her claws- not as keen as a feline's, as they constantly wore against stones and earth- scraped against the ground and she emitted a low, sharp bark for her fellow hyenas to join her against the greyish female. Two other hyenas immediately stalked forward, flanking the matriarch. Most of the time, a trespassing lion or lioness would either leave reluctantly, not willing to put up a fight, or they would challenge her clan to a skirmish, but be driven off. This lioness, however, was clearly skilled in battle, as her scars proved so. But something she noticed was that she had fresh wounds that didn't seem like they were already beginning to heal over. Perhaps those recent injuries could make her less difficult to drive out.

Kaharabu came to a halt, a low snort escaping her jaws at the angry response. She did not plan on backing away from any fight, but she didn't think this would turn out well in her favor. That was too bad, for she was too stubborn to leave. "Really? Let's see, mutt." she snarled back, the fur on her neck lifting and her ears pinning back against her skull. She unsheathed her claws and flexed them against the soil, glaring at the other hyenas as they approached, and whipped her tail through the air. She'd not make the first move, but she was ready nonetheless.

The hyena matriarch lunged at the greyish lioness, and although her claws were not as keen as the feline's, she tackled her to the ground with a snarl. Though her two companions instinctively bounded forward to assist their leader in the ambush, she gestured for them to halt. Unless she truly needed help, she would battle alone. Despite her dominant attitude and her love for winning fights, she knew it was a clear sign of cowardice to fight three on one or anything of the sort. She drew her lips back and wrinkled her muzzle slightly in a snarl, though she made no further attacks. She was sure that the lioness would most likely be able to throw her off due to her considerable size and strength, but she was prepared for a retaliation.

She reared up to meet the hyena, but the momentum of the latter knocked her down. She was surprised that the hyena didn't let her guards join in. That made Kaharabu hiss with satisfaction--one hyena would be but an easy victory. The lioness flung out her forepaw and slammed it towards the creature's head, and twisted to kick her away so she could get to her paws, snorting.

The hyena yelped sharply as the female's paw clouted her head, and she was tossed easily to the side, skidding across the ground a bit. One of the hyenas, who was more hostile than most of the cackle, made to spring forward, but the matriarch barked for her to stay put. She wasn't ready to have them join her just yet. Either it was great pride or the fact that the hyena was unwilling to take on a single lioness with two companions as it was unfair and cowardly, but perhaps the lead hyena could have her two comrades attack when the greyish lioness was least expecting it... She jumped to her paws, emitting low snarls from her throat. There was no way that she would let herself be beaten so easily. She faced the feline with great hostility, her neck fur lifting and her teeth bared fiercely. Though the other hyenas did not attack, they watched the battle suspiciously, making sure to be prepared to defend the matriarch in case their leader happened to be knocked unconscious or severely injured.
