[Private] Shades of the Flame [w/ Iri]

She sent a last blow to the nearest mutt before charging away, tail lashing, stumbling from the slight push before snorting and glancing back, glad to see that the cackle didn't seem interested in finishing her or Chaltuu off. She grunted stiffly, coming to a halt after a moment and turning her attention to the red-coated lioness. "Thanks.." she grumbled out, obviously irritated. And she was still thirsty.

"Yeah, sure," Chaltuu muttered in response, averting her gaze and fixing her harsh stare on the ground. Despite herself, she glanced quickly at Kaharabu's injuries, analyzing them briefly. She wasn't sure what to think of it- she hadn't been the one who had been initially attacked, after all. But nonetheless, the greyish female didn't seem to have been brutally and relentlessly savaged, she supposed... She wasn't sure what to do next- she sneaked another glimpse at the hyenas, who were settling down casually, though she spotted a few of them on alert. She even noticed one or two watching them suspiciously, as if expecting them to attack yet again.

[Ugh. Museless.]

She gave her grey coat a quick once-over, but the scratched and wounds weren't enough to worry over. Releasing a low groan from her jaws, she turned back towards the waterhole and hissed quietly at the lounging hyenas. Now where would she find some decent water? Kaharabu glanced over at the red lioness, and huffed out irritably. "I'm gonna find somewhere else to drink." she grunted, shaking her coat and beginning to limp away. "You better come, there's no water around here worth getting to."

[ lol just realized both times they saved each other had something to do with water ]

[Oh... wow... good point. xD Gosh these two are thirsty aren't they?]

"Fine, sounds like a plan," Chaltuu replied curtly, not quite convinced that Kaharabu actually wanted her to accompany her. But whether the dark greyish lioness did or not, Chaltuu didn't really care. She had ignored her thirst for quite some time, but started to pay attention to her parched mouth. She knew dehydration always led to quicker exhaustion, which led to being weak, which she detested greatly. So she followed the limping feline casually, a scowl still remaining on her expression.

[ xD ]

Traipsing over the dusty land, she paid little heed to whether the reddish female was following her. She picked up steps after a moment, but merely flicked an ear. She wasn't really looking for company, but she wasn't one to just brush off help. Somehow fate kept tossing the two lionesses together, and Kaharabu was just gonna go with it for now. She lifted her head, eyes searching for signs of water in the distance.

"Where there's lush grass," Chaltuu mused almost silently to herself, "There most likely water." She was reciting the words that the old medic in her former pride had said- she had never been kind to her, but as a youngster she had often listened in on what she was saying, as the entire pride saw her as wise and intelligent; and granted, she was, but that didn't make her a very affable being. No, she had been like so many others in the pride Chaltuu had left behind- prejudiced, cold, sometimes even downright cruel or mean. But she had had abundant knowledge and tidbits of admittedly useful information of the world around her, and Chaltuu frequently used those tips in her daily life, now that she was on her own. She lifted her head, wanting to be able to locate a source of decent water. The foliage around them wasn't completely dead, but it was rather parched and dry, which Chaltuu didn't take as a good sign.

[ plz slap me im so sorry ]

She twitched an ear to a murmur from behind her, but could not make out the words. She disregarded it with a sniff and continued trekking on through the dry grass landscape, her eyes narrowed and dull as they swept over the horizon. She could see hills in the distance, but that didn't promise anything other than more walking. She huffed to herself and trotted on, tail swinging behind her. Up a slight slope and she paused again to scan over the grass, glancing from the spread of herds in the distance to the nearby patches of dust and bushes. Twitching an ear, she caught sight of a warthog trio in the shrubs, but after a moment's thought decided not to mess around and waste energy. She moved on.

Frowning, the russet lioness followed Kaharabu's gaze and and snorted softly when she saw the trio of warthogs. "Approximately how far do you think the nearest water source is?" Chaltuu said tersely, her voice as dull and annoyed as ever. She followed the greyish female with the corners of her mouth and her brow knitted together in a grouchy scowl, as if ready to defend herself if attacked. Though her expression showed nothing but crossness and constant irritation with the world, her mind harbored curiosity about Kaharabu. Judging from her fierce and gruff attitude, she had most likely not had the easiest of lives, but that was about all Chaltuu could really assume. But questions brewed in her mind- what had Kaharabu's childhood been like? Her parents, had she been in a pride? She supposed it was unlikely that she would get answers, but she couldn't help but wonder.

With the sound of Chaltuu's voice from behind, the dark-hued lioness pricked on ear back towards her. She wrinkled her nose slightly and stared ahead, over the waving stalks of grass and distant rolling hills. "No idea. It could be beyond that hill, or further than the next sky-length." she retorted in an equally disinterested tone, her tail giving a sudden lash. Kaharabu pressed onward, not wanting to talk. It wasn't like she had any experience, anyway. Her narrowed gaze kept focused on the path ahead, searching for anything promising.

As the sun was beginning to take its toll and the moon replaced it in the now dark cobalt sky, Chaltuu sniffed the air. They were not getting any closer to a water source. The two had been mostly silent throughout the entire trip, except for a few irritated mutters or snorts. Though Chaltuu wasn't quite ready to simply cease their quiet search for water, she was growing a bit weary- not that she would admit that to anyone, of course- and spoke; even though the few words she uttered were reluctantly grunted. "We ought to rest." She lifted her head, scanning the area. There was a baobab tree not too far away- Chaltuu presumed it must only be a hundred yards or so from them. If Kaharabu agreed to rest for a while, that would be an ideal place.

[Yes, I know lions don't know the metric system. Sorry not sorry.]
