Katherine woke up to a loud hiss and was surprised to see her shabby gray kitten sitting perched up on the corner of her mattress. Katherine pushed back her brown hair behind her ear and groaned.
"What are you doing here?"she asked.
She slid a short dagger in her pant's pocket and tied her hair into a long pony tail before getting stopped by a sweet and low voice of her 9 year old sister.
"Kat....Where are you going,"she asked stepping forward to the rusty door.
Katherine bent down staring into Penny's eyes with her own hazel ones. She attempted to smile and pulled back her sister's blonde hair.
"Stay here Penny, okay?"
She nodded towards her mother who stared at her sadly. Katherine slowly stepped out of the door and ran through the busy crowds and swarms of people. She stared at the little children by the pavement looking at her with their sad eyes as they brushed the dirt on their faces. She couldn't bear to look at the elder people who lied helplessly in the ground with flies buzzing up them. She hid the nauseating sense inside of her and hurried quickly into the electric fence. She crouched down and brushed away the leaves to find her bow. She looked at the small signature carved by her best friend Lent who was off working in the mines after his father's death. She brushed away memories and grabbed the bow handle and swung it over her shoulders.
*****After Hunting*****
She crept below the fence and picked up her game before hiding the bow somewhere else and looking at the swarm of Peacekeepers who were heading through the woods. She quickly hid behind the thick tree and was careful not to make a sound. She would stick her ground to the disgusting so called "Peacekeepers",but she worried at the numerable things they could do to her. They can cut my tongue, send me to the Capitol, put me into the Hunger Games. She gripped the bow so tight, that her knuckles turned pale white compared to her skin. They were behind the fence, talking in their usual tones. She shut her eyes. Specks of fresh dirt layed on her cheek, but she didn't dare move. She heard footsteps approaching and she slowly crouched getting away from them as she headed towards the stream, well aware of each sound she made. She ran on toes and with her quick speed she reached there. That was close. She looked back to see them gone, and she crept back behind the fence and raced to her house, to see Penny crawled below her sheets, terrified.
"What's wrong Pen?"Katherine said in a sweet tone.
Penny hid her horrified eyes and pointed to the television screen. She saw her mom carry the basket of clothing before stopping by their bedroom and staring at the television.
"Penny,don't--no..."her mom replied before reluctantly lifting her eyes to Katherine.
The screen showed the horrifying images of the 76th annual Hunger Games, the choosing of each district. She collected the saliva in her mouth, hoping that the images would come to life so she could spit on all of them. Her eyes were getting wattery as she looked at Penny.
"What if I get chosen Kat,would they do that to me?"
"No,turn off the T.V, those are just dreams,you hear me?You won't get chosen,your only 9 Penny,"Katherine said.
She began to realize how stupid she sounded before she fixed her eyes on her mom, wasn't she supposed to be doing this to Penny, not her?She stood there frozen, with fresh tears dripping down her cheeks,as she dropped the basket of clothes and rushed down the door before she could see her daughters looking down at her.
(Sorry if it was dramatic)
