This is my first fanfic I've done and it's the first in a three to four part series I'm making. This first part deals with Star, a young wolf who's kidnapped by humans and is put into an illegal wolf-fighting league.

After quite a while of working, I'm almost done and I'll post new chapters every week or so. This is the first half of chapter one:

Chapter One: Abduction
Ever since he was old enough to walk Star had made it a priority to wake up every morning from his den before sunrise so he could go out to the edge of the ice fields to watch as the sun slowly rose above the horizon and turned the ice into a show of lights. But this morning was different.

Star was still asleep well after sunrise that morning and he only awoke when his small cave of a den was flooded with light by the sun. Star lived near the edge of his pack's territory in a small group of dark caves that were created by millions of years of mountain slides and glacial shifts. On clear nights Star would sit with his mate Ember and together they would spend hours upon hours looking up at the stars and the moon.

But there were problems with where he lived. If his territory was ever trespassed upon by rival wolves he would almost always be hit first by incoming wolves; or if another wolf was found wandering nearby Star had the responsibility to escort it back to where it came from. Usually by force.

When the sunlight hit Star he let out a tired growl and lowered his head to the ground so he wouldn't get blinded by the light. Grudgingly Star began to arise from his long slumber by stretching his long muscular body out on the floor listening to his joints creak and crick. When he was finally upright Star looked around his cave for any sign of his mate but she was nowhere to be found.

Star had wanted to wait for Ember to return but he didn't have any more time to waste.
Since the middle of last year wolves were disappearing from their territories never to be heard from again. Wolves vanishing was not something that was unheard of in Star's and the neighboring pack's areas but wolves were disappearing at such an alarming rate it was causing tension between packs; most notably Star's own pack the Silver Tail pack which was named after the head wolf's oddly colored tail and the Snowy River pack which lived on and near the ice floes right outside of Star's territory.

Star had elected to sleep in that morning because of his mission. The head wolf of his pack Zirco had chosen Star to be a diplomat between the snowy river pack and his own. For many generations the Snowy River pack and the Silver Tail pack waged war with each other until Zirco's father had managed to call an armistice between the two packs. This was a very successful move until the disappearances began. The Snowy River pack had lost over half of its wolves and they were convinced that Star's pack were behind it all.

Star was to meet with the leader of the Snowy River pack Pyrix, at a neutral location deep into the woods far away from both packs where Star and the enemy leader would try to peacefully discuss the issue at hand.

Here is part two to chapter one:

Star was chosen for this mission because of his past experience with the Snowy River pack and also because if anybody tried to ambush him, Star would be the best able to fight off any assailants for he was the strongest available wolf in his pack.

Though his body was still young, he had already developed powerful limbs and his dew claws could slice right through another animals neck. The only visible feature on Star that was different from the other wolves in his pack was a scar that left two straight lines; one above, and one below his left eye, the remnants of an accident that occured on his first hunt when he slipped on some wet ground and landed face-first on a pile of sharp rocks.

Within the hour Star had left his pack's territory and was now on his own. For hours he slowly walked on hoping he could reach the rendezvous point by dusk. As morning turned to day and day turned to night, Star still had yet to reach his destination. He was about to give up for the day to find a den for the night when all of a sudden the area around him exploded with so much light that it was almost as if time had turned back and it was once again daylight.

With his eyes now adjusted to the dark, Star had no choice but to close them and hope for the best. When he was able to open his eyes he saw a large group of humans surrounding him; pointing long, metal poles at him. Before he could come to terms with what was happening something struck Star from behind in the back of the neck. In only a matter of seconds he was on the ground and was fighting just to stay conscious.

Before he was lost to the darkness he tried to call for help, but the only word able to get out of his mouth was "Ember"; before he was out cold; his mission a failure.

"Is he alert?"
"Yes, but it's too early to..."
"Throw him in."
"Yes sir".

I don't plan to release chapters in parts and hopefully this is the last time I do it.

Here's chapter two part one:

Chapter Two: New life

Because the room was so dark, it took Star a few seconds after opening his eyes to realize he wasn't still out. The tranquilizers had weakened his body so much that it took all his effort just to be able to get off the freezing floor.

The last thing he remembered was seeing the sky explode with light all around him; then, something hitting him, and now this unfamiliar place.

He tried looking around but between the almost total lack of light and him having just woken up, he could barely see a foot in front of him. With him being weak and with it being so dark Star had no way of knowing how big this place was or if there was even a way out.

Star had no idea where he was or how far he had traveled. The room he was in was freezing and in his territory it was still summer so either he had traveled quite far or something other than the weather was making it like this. And then there was the noise. All around him he could hear the unmistakable cries and howls of wolves in pain and suffering.

It was so unbearable that he felt as though he just woke up in hell. Star courageously took a small step forward only to have his paw land in a small puddle. When he bent down to find out what it was he was overwhelmed with the smell of blood.

Star began to freak out. He ran up to the hard cement walls and started pounding on them with his paws. He tried yelling hoping someone would come by "where am I? What is this place? Why am I here? W..." Star was cut-off in mid-sentence by a wolf lying a foot away making a grunt in Star's general direction.

As Star got close to it, he saw it was a wolf that probably wasn't too much older than him. It had brown fur with white patches across it's back and it looked like it had a strong body. With just a few more steps towards it, it's most prominent feature came into focus. It was covered in blood both old and new and there were cuts and puncture marks all over it.

"Hey, what happened to you? Are you all right?" said Storm in a caring voice. "Listen, do you know what this crazy place is because this is like no place I've ever been." said Star. "Come closer" said the wolf and when Star obeyed and was right next to it, it lashed out and hit Star right in the jaw. "Now, maybe you'll shut up" said the wolf as Star hit the hard floor.

And here's the last part to chapter two. From now on the chapters won't be divided up into parts.

The hit from the wolf was just too much for Star to handle in his condition. There was no hope of getting up for quite some time so Star had to deal with laying down on the blood-soaked floor. "What was that for?" said Star through gritted fangs. "Listen" said the wolf "if you keep on yelling like that then you'll get the attention of people far worse than myself. People that will kill you and not think twice about it. So try not to make such a ruckus."

Star was confused. "What people? How did we get here? Where are we? Why are we here? Why are you so banged up?"

The wolf let out a slight laugh. "The same people who took you here fool. I think they used something in those poles of theirs to knock us out, and then they moved us to this hell. None of us knows where we are because this and the arena are the only places we've seen since we've been here. As for why we're here? To fight each other and to die here. That's it.

"Wait" said Star "why don't all of you just stop fighting?"

The wolf looked down and shook his head. Star noticed some blood drops land on his fur. "Because if we don't then they'll just kill us all. But there's another reason.
"What?" asked Star.

"The winner gets to leave. There's so much about this place that you need to know." said the wolf. "Say, I never got to introduce myself. I'm 34; who are you?"

Here's chapter three:

Chapter Three: Number 77

Star was taken completely off-guard by this wolf. He didn't know what to expect next from it because one minute it's telling him to shut up and now it's asking for his name. Still, Star knew it would be rude to not introduce himself. He also knew he might need all the friends he could get in this place.

"I'm sorry I forgot to introduce myself" Star said. "My name's Star and I'm from the Silver Tail pack". He stopped talking though when the wolf raised his paw at him and gave him the universal gesture for telling somebody to stop.

"I don't care about your old name or where you're from and neither should you. Those kinds of things mean nothing in here. I meant what's your number?" said the wolf in a very annoyed tone.

"What number?" asked a very confused and curious Star.

"It's right there on your collar." replied the wolf as it then pointed down at Star's neck.

Star looked down and to his amazement, there was a metal and fabric collar around his neck and in the center there was a small metal circle with some writing on it. In between losing himself and meeting this wolf Star had completely forgotten to check himself. He secretly wondered what else might be on him.

"See?" said the wolf. "Can you tell me what it says on the little circle? I can't see too well in here."

Star looked down and examined the metal circle. In the middle he could make out in faded lettering two numbers, a seven and another seven right next to the first one. Before looking back at the wolf he checked out the rest of his collar but there was nothing else inscribed upon it.

"Ummm. It says seventy-seven. What does that mean?" asked Star.

"It means it's your new name and rank. At any one time there are always one-hundred of us in here and they use these collars to tell us apart. It seems that your number is seventy-seven. Mine is thirty four so that's what you can call me." said thirty four.

"So", said Star gloomily. "How did I get this number? You said this is some fight thing so is this a ranking of my strength?"

"No. The number and collar belonged to other wolves before you. It was just a coincidence that you got that and not something else. I've seen wolves that had number two and were weak as hell and I've seen wolves that had something like ninety-five and won." replied thirty-four almost nostalgically.

"So, if you've seen all this then you must have been here for quite some time" said Star.

"I've been here for......" thirty four stopped talking when all of a sudden little red lights were flashing along the walls accompanied by an alarm that filled the room with a screeching noise.

"Oh, s**T!!!!!" said thirty four "It's starting."
