A Battle In The Air (AmyMarie & SimbasMate)

Jumbe looked back at Ashur who was suspiciously walking a bit father behind her, Aimee and Askari than before. Ashur was also walking with his head down a bit, but his blue eyes were also fixed on something. Jumbe then realized who Ashur was looking at. He was looking at Aimee.

Jumbe giggled softly and as she walked beside Aimee, she leaned a little closer to her and whispered.

"Hey, Aimee. I think Ashur is looking at you!" Jumbe giggled some more and looked back at Ashur, who was still staring at Aimee. Jumbe couldn't tell what excatly he was staring at, but he was definitely staring at Amy. Jumbe found herself to be somewhat jealous, but honestly she didn't care. Ashur was like a brother to her. Having a crush on him would be weird to her.

Jumbe turned back to Aimee and giggled more.

"He really is staring at you!"

Aimee's face split into one of puzzlement when Jumbe spoke.
"What, why?" she asked, a little naive to what was going on. She wasn't exactly being dumb, she was just oblivious to the fact she may liked in that way by someone. "Is my fur sticking up on my back or something?" She did a quick glance behind her, catching Ashur's eye momentarily before looking forward again awkwardly.

Jumbe's giggling summed up what she must be thinking. Aimee looked as though she had realised something and shook her head, dismissing the thought. "Na...I don't think it's like that. We've only just been friends". Askari wished he could hear the conversation. He wanted to know what was being said. He turned around a gave Ashur a rather stern look. He was staring at his 'sister'.

Askari couldn't understand the need for little romances. Not now. Not when they were half-starved to death and on the run from Scar and his kingdom. He grumpily sped up in front of the two lionesses as if to emphasise his need to get on with the walk.

Ashur's heart skipped when Aimee turned back and looked at him. It was a moment of heaven, just looking at her for that one split second. But his happiness was stolen away when Askari had noticed him looking at Aimee, in which he threw a stern look at him. Ashur gave one back when Askari turned his head away. Ashur suddenly felt angry towards Askari, but he pushed it away. There was no time to hold a grudge against anyone just for a look they had given you. And considering their condition, Ashur was confused on why he was so focused on getting Aimee's attention, rather than his own survival.

As Ashur continued to walk behind the two lionesses-who had sped up when Askari suddenly started to pick up his pace-light was peeking up from the horizon. There was only a little bit, but Ashur could tell that soon there would be day again. Day meant heat, and heat meant thirst. Even after finding water, they still needed more in their bodies. He hoped that along with more water, there would be food. Maybe even a fat zebra for them all to share. Ashur salivated at the thought and his stomach rumbled loudly. Food sounded so good right now, but he was determined not to let it distract him from the walk.

Jumbe stopped giggling when Askari had sped up. Her paws were hurting from the walk that seemed to go on for hours, but at least there was no dust here. Jumbe was still in poor condition. Her body was still weak and it was hard to walk, but she kept on going nonetheless. Besides, there was absolutely no reason to give up now. Jumbe had her good friends with her and she was away from the Pridelands. It was only yesterday that the four of them had escaped, yet they all had come so far.

"Hey, Kari!" Jumbe yelled ahead. "Do you even know how long this desert is?"

Askari felt a little more hopeful as they pushed on. More vegetation was appearing as they continued. An odd barren tree or bush turned into quite a few accompanied by rock piles. He had saw a shifty looking snake basking on one of the rocks and had warned his friends to watch out for more in the sand. There was no hope for a lion with a venomous snake bite after all.

He heard Jumbe call out. Her question made him a little nervous. He didn't know how long it was. They had been walking briskly for hours.
"Uh...". He stopped in his tracks, causing Aimee to do so as well. He observed his surroundings. The light from the rising sun stung them for a moment, they had been accustomed to the dark.

"Askari, do you know where to go?" Aimee asked, not sounding as concerned as she actually felt.
"Not really" he mumbled truthfully. The young lioness sighed and squinted her eyes, looking out across the horizon. She could see something. Green vegetation. Askari was now pacing nervously and Aimee spun around to her friends excitedly.

"Guys! I can see tree's and stuff in the distance!". Askari raised a brow and then rolled his eyes.
"You're hallucinating Aimee". He was in too much of a pessimistic mood to believe her. He couldn't see anything.
"No I'm not! I can see it" Aimee protested. "It's in that direction" she said, motioning with her paw.

Ashur was just a as pessimistic as well and lifted his eyebrows at Aimee and smirked. It was nice seeing her so excited, but this was a desert for crying out loud. It was just the luck of the draw when Aimee had found that pool of water. Surely luck didn't occur this much. Nonetheless, Ashur looked into the direction where Aimee had motioned them with her paw. He swore that his heart did a back flip. There was vegetation. Ashur was so used to seeing grey these days he thought he might have forgotten what a tree looked like.

Suddenly with a burst of determined energy, Ashur zipped past his three friends and into the green. He stopped near the entrance and looked around. This place was so beautiful. Ashur was so happy he could almost give the soft soil a loving nuzzle. He sat down and waited for his friends to catch up, enjoying the new and exciting colors.

As soon as Jumbe heard Aimee say that she saw green, her heart leaped. The Great Kings of The Past really were watching over them. Jumbe was so happy she didn't even notice Ashur rushing past them all into the green. She looked up towards the now almost morning sky, and purred softly. Jumbe knew that they were all being looked out for, and she was truly thankful. After thanking the Great Kings of The Past once more, Jumbe walked at a fast pace and caught up with Aimee.

"C'mon Askari!" Jumbe called back to Kari. "There might be food where there is trees and lots of grass! Come on, don't be slow pokes! You come too, Ashur!" Jumbe scanned the desert from where they had come from. Ashur wasn't there. Jumbe's heart sank.

"Hey, does anyone know where Ashur went?"

Askari was snapped out of his pessimism and he glanced up. There...was...green. His eyes widened a little. He noticed Jumbe and Aimee had already started making there way towards the greenery. He began to run after them with a spring in his step..
"Aimee, you were right! You were right!" he called out enthusiastically.

Askari turned around to look at the desert. No, Ashur wasn't there. Aimee soon spotted him amongst the new land.
"He's over there!". She ran over to him and bounced around excitedly, similarly to a cub. "Ashur! Isn't this fantastic!" she said with a wide grin. She, without thinking, pounced at him and tackled him to the ground. She nuzzled him happily but soon remembered what she was doing.

She awkwardly sat up again and smiled, blushing a little from this sudden outburst of energy. Her older 'brother' caught up with her. He saw them, now on the ground and rolled his eyes. He was too happy to be angry though.

All of a sudden as Ashur was enjoying the green scenery, Aimee had come out of the desert and pounced on him, and then he had been given a loving nuzzle by her. After Aimee had gotten off of him, Ashur shook out his fur and just sat there dumbfounded and love struck. He was so confused. Did she like him too? Was that her way of telling him she liked him? Ashur pondered this for a few minutes, but got too frustrated. Whatever that was about, he wasn't complaining at all. He would have loved to look into her deep blue eyes and then give her loving nuzzle.

Running after Aimee and watching her pounce on Ashur, Jumbe sat down next to Ashur after he had gotten up. Her mouth was dry and her body had got rid of the water she had drank earlier. She felt faint again, and her three friends were once again colorful blurs. Jumbe tried to smile and enjoy the vegetation that Aimee found, but she could not stand up any longer. The walk in the desert had tired her, and she hadn't had much time to rest. Jumbe's world suddenly started to spin and after a few moments of trying to get back her balance, she collapsed on the soft ground with a very hard thud. Once again, Jumbe's world went black.

Ashur snapped out of his thoughts when he heard the hard thud. Jumbe had fainted once again. Panicking, Ashur tugged on her ear violently. He tried to wake her up, but she didn't budge. Ashur felt a tear run down his cheek. She was still breathing, which was good. Even though Ashur could understand how Jumbe felt and her bad condition, he was still frustrated because he knew if Jumbe kept fainting..then they all would get nowhere. Ashur turned to Askari and Aimee.

"We need to find water, and now." Ashur said sternly as he picked Jumbe up once again and threw her onto his back.

Askari jumped into action as soon as Jumbe hit the floor again. It was time to find what they needed.
"Follow me" Askari called. Aimee went to Ashur's side to monitor Jumbe's breathing. They all needed to know if it got worse or not. The trio began to move through the greenery.

It began getting denser. Vines dared to tangle their paws and trip them up, but the thorn incident had made that better. Speaking of thorns, Aimee still hadn't ridden herself of the ones embedded in her skin. She decided she'd rid of them in water. It would be less painful. After a little while of walking, they came to a large clearing.

The sound of running water became apparent and then, in clear vision, was a huge glistening lake. Beyond that was the biggest waterfall any of them had ever laid eyes on. Aimee gasped and stared up in awe, so did her older male friend, but they knew Jumbe was in need.
"Come on, we'll get her to the water's edge. She needs to see this" Aimee said to Ashur.

Ashur smiled widely at the sight of the huge and glistening lake. His mouth suddenly became dry again, and he felt as if he could lap up that whole lake all by himself. Ashur looked back onto his back and saw Jumbe, still passed out on him. Freeing himself from the wonderful thoughts of fresh drinking water, he responded to Aimee's order and walked over to the water's edge. When Ashur got even closer to the water, it looked even more beautiful. The cerulean blue was even lighter at a closer sight.

Ashur slowly lowered himself to the ground, and let Jumbe slide off of his back carefully. After placing her down, Ashur sat down next to Aimee. His heart suddenly started beating faster, and he felt all warm inside. He tried to look at her, but he was afraid. He was afraid of getting all bashful in front of her. And what would be more embarrassing than getting like that, and especially in front of a girl? But nonetheless, Ashur gave it a shot.

"The water is so beautiful." Ashur pointed out to Aimee. But not as beautiful as your eyes.

Ashur watched the slow running water, as well as keeping a close eye on Jumbe who was making slight movements, which was a good sign. She was going to wake up soon.

Scar roared furiously at the hyenas and started to pace back and fourth in anger.

"You didn't catch them! WHY DIDN'T YOU CATCH THEM?" Scar yelled.
"They ran through the thorn bushes, and we weren't gonna get those thorns in us! Do you know how sharp they are?" Banzi complained. Shenzi threw him a look, warning him not to argue with Scar.

"Ugh. Whatever. I guess then you won't get any dinner then."

"But we're hungry!" Banzi complained again, clearly not caring about Shenzi's warning.

"The go get those cubs!"

"Right boss, we'll try again!" Shenzi chimed in. She gave Scar an apologetic look and scurried off in a hurry with Banzi and Ed, who was laughing hysterically at nothing at all.
